How to keep your Lip-Stick on, even 12 hours later!

Your make-up is really the last thing you want to be bothered about, especially at work, or when you want to convince that guy, your lips are really as red as they looked when he picked you up for your date, 2 hours into the meal...unlike mascara's and powders, the lipstick tends to be one of the makeup that simply won't stay on your face for too long, no matter the quality, the most it can stay is about 6 hours, and that's because you lips are always busy, either its eating or it's talking and that's not good news...here though are the steps to take for the perfect looking, long lasting lip colour.

.Exfoliate & Moisturize
First, you will need to use a lip scrub to exfoliate any dead skin and smooth out the surface of your lips. This will leave your pout ready for a rich lip balm (which we get to next). Some great scrubs include Sara Happ The Lip Scrub Brown Sugar Exfoliator and my DIY Brown Sugar Olive Oil Scrub. Keep your lips smooth and hydrated by applying a good balm every night before you go to bed, for a week leading up to your date.

.Line
Once your lips are fully exfoliated and moisturized, you will need to add definition and shape with a lip liner that matches the hue of your lipstick. This will also help prevent feathering later on — meaning your lipstick won’t run outside of the lines.

 .Tint
Now it’s time to fill it all in with color. Choose a tint that’s a pretty close match to the color of your lipstick. A lip tint will essentially “stain” your lips, so even if you are eating and drinking throughout the night, there will be some color on your lips at all times. Tints also work really well after your lips are exfoliated, so don’t forget step one!

.Lipstick
After your lips are prepped, lined, and tinted, go ahead and apply your lipstick color. Just continue to make sure that you are using uniform shades through the process so that you aren’t getting a mixed, mucky hue. Some lipsticks last better than others. Here are a few that have excellent reputations in the beauty world: CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color, Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Color, and MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Lipcreme.

.Seal
Your last step for getting smooch-certified lips is, literally, sealing the deal. This is a little trick I use myself: After you apply your lipstick, hold a tissue over your lips and lightly dust translucent powder over the tissue. The powder will ever-so-lightly fall on your lips through the tissue, and it will set your lip color the same way it sets your makeup when you use it on your face. For this step, I recommend Bare Minerals Mineral Veil or Maybelline Finishing Translucent Powder.

Now that you know how to get your lips smooch-worthy, just remember my lipstick tricks — and, of course, have fun! Do you have any tips for getting kissable lips? Leave them in the comments below & I’ll be sure to check them out!
